Underneath the Tree - Kelly Clarkson (Official Lyric Video)

Fell in love with this sentimental tune, done in a Wall of Sound/Phil Spector style. Enjoy, but use sparingly. You'll cry on your keyboard.

Velociprincess - Disney Princesses as Velociraptors

Hello Damsels, it's just been hard to keep up with this blog due to work, the elections and other things. I stumbled on this while searching for mashups.

I had done a dino-girl some time ago, but here's some fresh work by Laura Cooper posted on geekxgirls.com

(artwork copyright Laura Cooper)

I don't have any original art to post these days, but here's to a happy holiday season,
come what may.

"Invitation to the dance" Gene Kelly

This is from a time when things were safer, more playful, and a lot more fun! Original copyright 1956 by MGM studios. Animation listed as directed by William Hanna and Joseph Barbara. The IMDB lists Michael Lah as the animator, uncredited.

Let's hear it for Mr. Lah and his crew for putting some spice into this sequence!

One point perspective sketch

Hello damsel fans, and webcrawlers everywhere, here's to the end of summer and the beginning of fall...

Just a rough sketch of some alternative characters examining an unknown hi-tech structure; the wise-guy (girl) character, the super strength character, and a smaller butterfly-bird-serpent type sprite.

Who knows what they will find inside?

Power Suit Girls

Here's another sketch I've been kicking around for over a year now...
Cubake and Lady Cobra finally get power suits, although Cubake is wearing one of Boffette's helmets. She has to masquerade as Boffette, while Lady Cobra can only wear a lower section.
Lady Cobra has boots, briefs and leggings with a custom made helmet that attaches at the waist.

This is from an older scenario where Boffette has disappeared, and Cubake and Lady Cobra go off to find and rescue her. It's kind of based on the old Iron Man comics where in a crisis, Tony Stark had trusted a confidant with a copy of his suit, and the stand-in then has to save Tony.

Usually instead, the stand-in gets his butt kicked, but buys Tony time to get out the trap, and get his suit on to save the day.

Beyond that, I really don't know what it means. Hopefully, these two will do better than the usual Marvel comic secondary character. Here's to a crazy hot summer!

Gravity Falls - Pyronica

Hey Damsel fan(s), we finally have a new entry for August:

(copyright Disney)

I don't know her name, but she sure stands out at Bill Cipher's party.
I think this in "Weirdmageddon Part 1".
She wins playing "Spin the Person", and snags a fellow demon guy with her tongue.
Then she gulps him down, but it doesn't bother her figure at all.

I'm just getting into this show, now that it's over.
It is amazing with some of the more mature themes the creators slip in to this show.
Like other femme fatales, she seems to be in there for shock value.

The show seems to pay tribute to some of my old favorites: Twin Peaks, X-Files, Stargate, and other classic science fiction, horror and mystery films, TV shows and print. Plus I guess there are some video game references sprinkled in there.

Anyway, I've got my eye on her. D'oh!

UPDATE: Just found out, her name is Pyronica.

Seagull Cinderella Controversy - Donna Dodson

Well, this could lead to an endless stream of bad jokes...

I discovered Donna Dodson's work two years ago. Personally, I still find her work enchanting. Because this sculpture is not the size of a toy, "Seagull Cinderella" is drawing a lot of fire. My devilish side wants to ask - - no, never mind.

Some say that bad press is better than no press at all. "Edit" the statue, or have it removed completely? Too bad this princess couldn't come to life, and give her critics a big hug.

Take me to your leader

Stumbled across this on Facebook...

(photographer and subject unknown)

Glamour from another planet!
My guess is that she gets around in a convertible.

Orlando Make It Stop!

(Update) Nothing can bring them back in Orlando.
This didn't need to happen, and it could have been prevented.

And it looks like nothing is going to change.
Too bad it couldn't be like the image above.

Shima from Planet Dolan

From Planet Dolan, meet Shima!

Shima is poised, knowledgeable and very appealing and she makes a great teacher! Shima is the voice of reason, and a refreshing antidote to the claims of her boneheaded pal, Dolan.

Both ladies play the "straight man" to Dolan's totally ignorant, and way-out ideas about science and nature, usually setting the record straight. The voice acting for Shima is marvelous as well.

There's also Melissa, who is also knowledgeable, shapely, poised, winsome and charming.
Melissa has appeared only a couple times, as I have seen so far. Demure, yet confident, I find her interesting too.

Have a good Memorial Day weekend. Enjoy!

Elsie the Borden Cow

Hello Damsels, need to blow off some steam after work. Here's Elsie the Borden Cow, back when she had a figure, and little more glamour. There's some other old nostalgic ads afterwards. Enjoy!

Judy Hopps in Heels

Yeah! Here's Judy in... Sorry folks, but Glamour doesn't seem to be part of Judy's makeup. The Zootopia characters are wonderful and popular, but they're all still just critters to me, especially if they can be shown on the screen "naked".

(copyright sorta Disney)

With all the things going on in sites like Deviant Art, this situation made me stop and think about what I am doing here. I thought I was balanced on the tightrope between titillation and good taste, but it looks like I've tripped.

Still, I keep sketching, photo-bashing and commenting on "pretty girls" facing danger, or some weird challenge. My goal is to have them win out in the end, with their dignity intact. As bizarre and alluring as my designs are, I feel that all my female characters deserve some level of respect.

I never stated it before, but I usually have a rule against altering Disney females. It's already been done to death. While I have made exceptions for characters like Sylvia from Wander over Yonder, giving Judy the "Damsel treatment" just doesn't work for me. Plus, the Damsels do not have tails.

Besides, the running joke here is that the taller the damsel, the higher the soles.
The only character I noticed in Zootopia who wore shoes was Gazelle. And even though she seemed to be Zootopia's good-will ambassador, Gazelle is just another character like Jessica Rabbit, put there solely for shock value.

Judy Hopps Zootopia - Presto mashup

Well, while she is not an official Diabolical Damsel, Judy Hopps is still...
Adorable.

There, I said it.

(copyright Pixar and Disney)

I threw Presto in there just for fun. Imagine his frustration having Judy as his partner.

Wander over Yonder - The Legend

Hello Damsels, well the giant robot version of Sylvia from last summer has finally arrived:
But not exactly the way I expected.

Still great, though sad to hear WOY will not be renewed for a third season.

Wander as Timmy Sparks...

And Sylvia as "Silver 7".

Obvious tribute to Gigantor.

And her highest level of "Grrl" Power yet!

The old held cel joke...

A loving jest at how cheap early TV anime was.

Sylvia is a grim faced robot imagined by kids.

 (all images copyright Disney)

Silver 7's only feminine attributes are her eyelashes. Oh well.

Your monster smashing friend until the end!

Wardrobe Malfunction

It's the 50th Superbowl, and thoughts of wardrobe malfunctions come to mind.

Alas, there's no art for you to see here!

Wander Over Yonder - The Show Stopper

Hello Damsels, WoY has been back for a few weeks now.
Warning! Spoiler alerts!
Lord Hater throws a rock concert, and once again, Sylvia is forced to take on her "wretched disguise":

(copyright Disney)

The over the top Party Chick Returns! She must not hate it too much. She managed to keep that outfit handy, and her hair, clothes, makeup and boots are always perfect.

But then, Sylvia is overshadowed by the arrival of an even more formidable female presence:

(copyright Disney)

Male impersonator, Lord Dominator

Naturally, Dominator is not thrilled with Lord Hater's performance.

Sylvia disrobes! Ah, the advantages of being a non-human cartoon character. There's a great smear drawing on the fourth frame as Sylvia slips out of her outfit, and zips out of the scene. Her party chick outfit floats nicely to the ground. The hot pink boots mysteriously disappear.

Fortunately, Sylvia does get to play a set on bass as herself. To assuage Lord Dominator, Wander crawls inside Lord Hater's skeleton and uses him like a puppet. But even after Wander sings a rock ballad about Hater's love for Dominator, she still blasts everyone once again.
